Lesson 28

Today is the most important day of my life. I finally climbed Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. My name is Edmund Hillary.

The top of the mountain was amazing. It felt like we were close to heaven. The snow was so thick that my boots sank into it. The air was silent. I looked at the beauty that surrounded me. Maybe my story will be a legend someday.

I want people to remember this forever. I was the senior explorer in my group, and I knew we needed something to show others about our climb. I took many pictures with my camera. I'll put them in a frame and hang them on the wall of my house.

On the mountain, the air was very cold. I wrapped my coat around my body.

I looked over the side of the mountaintop. From that angle, I saw the border of the clouds touch the rocks below. The snow was thick. It looked pure. There was no sign of modern life. Thousands of years ago, my ancestors saw the world this way.

After fifteen minutes, I knew it was time to proceed down the mountain. The whole team congratulated each other. My superior, John Hunt, praised us all. I sent messages to my relatives to tell them that I was safe. But it was hard to leave the mountain so quickly. I wanted to enjoy the incredible sight even longer.

اليوم هو أهم يوم في حياتي. أخيراً لقد تسلقت جبل ايفرست، أطول جبل في العالم. اسمي إدموند هيلاري.

قمة الجبل كانت مذهلة. شعرت و كأننا قريبون من السماء. كان الثلج سميكاً لدرجة أن حذائي غرق فيه. كان الهواء صامتاً. نظرت إلى الجمال الذي أحاط بي. ربما ستكون قصتي أسطورة يوما ما.

أريد أن يتذكر الناس هذا إلى الأبد. كنت كبير المستكشفين في مجموعتي، وكنت أعرف أننا بحاجة إلى شيء لإظهاره للآخرين عن تسلقنا. التقطت العديد من الصور باستخدام كاميرتي. سأضعهم في إطار وأعلقهم على جدار منزلي.

على الجبل، كان الهواء باردا جدا. لقد لففت معطفي حول جسدي.

نظرت إلى جانب قمة الجبل. من تلك الزاوية، رأيت حدود الغيوم تلمس الصخور أدناه. كان الثلج كثيفاً. بدت نقية. لم يكن هناك أي علامة على الحياة الحديثة. منذ آلاف السنين، رأى أجدادي العالم بهذه الطريقة.

بعد خمس عشرة دقيقة، عرفت أن الوقت قد حان للمضي قدماً في الجبل. هنأ الفريق بأكمله بعضهم البعض. أثنى علينا رئيسي، جون هانت. أرسلت رسائل إلى أقاربي لأخبرهم أنني بأمان. لكن كان من الصعب مغادرة الجبل بسرعة كبيرة. أردت الاستمتاع بالمشهد المذهل لفترة أطول.
